our storyWhy we started Commotion Labs
When my daughter was born, I started thinking harder about what impact I want my work to have. I wanted to work with companies trying to leave the world better than they found it: cleaner energy, better food production, new medicines and materials.
So I went and talked to them. The same conversation kept happening. Deep tech companies have very specific needs: a story that takes real effort to understand, buyers spread across different industries, a website written for the investors who funded the science rather than the customers who’ll buy it. Furthermore their investment rounds were budgeted and they often didn’t have the budget to get the marketing they wanted and couldn’t afford monthly retainers. We’ve structured our pricing and services around these challenges.
The economics of the long R&D road and investment milestones make that gap from Lab to revenue generating expensive. Deep tech fails at commercialisation more often than it fails at science. Companies spend years and most of their funding getting the technology right, and by the time there’s something to sell, half the business can already belong to someone else. The story that wins customers gets whatever time and money are left (which is often not enough).

Our vision
Commotion Labs is the agency I couldn’t find in those conversations: branding, website, film, photography and paid media in one team, built around the commercialisation gap. The job is to shorten the distance between working science and paying customers, so good companies reach a sustainable point sooner and keep more of what they built.
